Getting the year going

The start of the Six Nations and daffodils blooming are two well-used markers of Spring being close and hopefully lighter, warmer days can help many of us feel brighter, not least due to lowering reliance on our expensive fuel bills.

Groesfaen Pedestrian Crossing

I was personally delighted to go down to the centre of the village this week and see work has started on this key project. It’s something that has been wanted and asked for over a number of years and has been a key focus of mine since I was elected in May, having understood on the campaign trail how important it was for residents. To see that being delivered is great for the residents who will finally have a safer way of crossing a busy road to facilities such as the Dynevor Arms, the main bus-stop, the park and the shop.

As part of this work the junction at Y Parc will also be slightly rebuilt, allowing those trying to come out a clearer view of oncoming traffic down the hill, further enhancing the safety of the village.

Café 50 – update

As many of you will know, unfortunately Café 50 has not been open to provide its usual lunch service in recent weeks. This is a situation that’s out of the hands of the Community Council as the service is run by Learning Curve, who have made the decision to close temporarily due to their own internal issues. We all understand this is an upsetting and unfortunate situation for the many users who usually enjoy this service and myself, Cllr. Wayne Owen and the whole Community Council are committed to doing everything we can to get the café re-opened. We are in ongoing discussions with both them and RCT Council to try and influence and persuade as much as we can.

Please note Julius and Tara, who many of you know, are not involved with this decision and know no more than has been publicly announced, so please don’t demand additional information and answers from them. They’re as frustrated as anyone.

Clubs that meet at Café 50 are unaffected and can continue to use the space as previously.

If you’ve attended the venue recently, you’ll have also noted a partition being put in between the ‘lounge’ area and the kitchen area. This has been commissioned by RCT Council who own the lease on the building, with the idea being the café can then open for longer hours (making it more sustainable financially) whilst allowing groups to carry on meeting in the separate room. There are a small number of groups that RCT and the Community Council are engaging with to ensure any concerns are dealt with quickly.

Community Wardens:

Last summer RCT announced funding for additional Community Wardens across the borough, and the pair allocated to Pontyclun and area have been spotted numerous times since the start of December. They’ll always be wearing official Council hi-visibility vest tops and are in place to help local residents with minor incidents and questions and crack down on anti-social behaviour.

YGGG Llantrisant PTA:

The annual Gala Spring Ball returns this April and as this is the key fundraising event in the PTA’s diary, they’re looking for local businesses who can make a donation for their fundraising auction. Whether it’s a physical prize, a service or maybe a day’s labour you can offer as a tradesperson, all donations will be gratefully received.

Please contact ygggllantrisantpta@gmail.com if you have anything you can offer.
